Renae Shadler & Camille Lacadée: ATELIER "Pushing, Swinging, Playing"

The Atelier is a participatory experimental space, led by choreographer Renae Shadler and set designer Camille Lacadée, that will take shape before and during the FRATZ Festival, where the two artists will engage in creative activities together with children from daycare centers. In the Atelier, a fantastical world emerges from large pieces of fabric, movement, and sound. The materials respond to touch and movement, constantly transforming and evolving. Children are invited to explore this world through play, to shape it with their own ideas, and to be surprised by what unfolds. Together, we observe what happens when children follow their curiosity, engage with materials, movement, and one another, and develop their own unique dance.

Renae Shadler is an Australian choreographer and dancer based in Berlin. Her work has been presented internationally, including at the PuSh Festival (Canada), Tanzplattform Deutschland, Tanz im August, Radialsystem (Germany), and New Baltic Dance (Lithuania), among others. Her choreographic practice, Worlding, explores the relationships between bodies and their environments.

Camille Lacadée is a Berlin-based set and costume designer and trained architect working in the fields of performance and installation.

The Atelier is part of the Artistic Research Program by Offensive Tanz, and is adressing very young children.

As part of FRATZ International 2026, a series of participatory Atelier sessions with preschool children will take place. The event on Sunday, October 11, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., is specifically intended for industry professionals and interested adults. You can step into the role of the co-creating children and then exchange ideas with the artists. By previous arrangement, you can also attend an Atelier session for daycare centers (dates: Thursday, October 8, and Friday, October 9, 10:00–11:00 a.m. each day; Monday, October 12, 9:30–10:30 a.m.; Tuesday, October 13, 10:00–11:00 a.m.). Capacity for these sessions is limited.
