Wurzala

Roots stand for strength and resistance, but also for security and anchoring, for cohesion and growth. "Wurzala" is the Old High German term for this. In her first dance piece for young audiences, Luana Madikera leads us on a search for movements that reflect characteristics of roots. She combines West African, Afro-Caribbean and contemporary dance and asks: How can we understand the complex connections and ramifications of life using roots? Can we find solutions with our bodies when our roots are under pressure? How can we become stronger together - just like a web of roots?

To develop the duet, she engages in an intensive exchange with a school class to explore the concept of cohesion and resilience through movement with the young audience.
