Kulturbus goes on

Senate extends pilot project to promote cultural participation of children and young people.

Translated with DeepL.com (free version).

After around 16 months of operation, we can report new successes with the Kulturbus campaign and are pleased to announce another round of funding: since the start of the project in fall 2021, 350 schools and daycare centers from all over the city have already taken advantage of a free bus ride to over 60 venues in Berlin. In total, more than 24,000 children and young people have benefited from this offer of cultural participation.

The Senate Department for Culture and Europe confirmed the continued funding of the project with funds amounting to EUR 350,000 in 2023. This means that a further 580 trips are available for educational institutions until 31.12.2023. The contingent is aimed at institutions with difficult public access and other barriers that make it difficult to visit culture with the group (e.g. small number of caregivers, large number of people in the group, participants with high care needs).

Klaus Lederer, Senator for Culture and Europe: "Uncomplicated, fair, participatory: the culture bus campaign is a flagship of Berlin's cultural policy. It enables school classes and daycare groups from all corners of the city to get to the cultural experiences of their choice. The initiative is a model for how the cultural participation of children and young people can be put into practice. For the majority of participants, it has opened the door to the theater. The 2/4 high demand from the institutions shows how great the benefits are for many people in this city. I would like to thank you for the idea and the commitment, which we are very happy to support with our pledge to continue."

Thomas Dörschel, Managing Director of Offensive Tanz für junges Publikum Berlin: "Our evaluation shows that the majority of schools and daycare centers would not have visited the cultural venues without the Offensive Kulturbus. Colleagues from Berlin's children's and youth theaters also tell us how grateful they are to reach new audiences from other parts of the city through the initiative. On behalf of the entire Offensive Tanz, I am delighted that the Senate is continuing to support the project."
