Theater Strahl

One place carried and designed by many.

Founded in 1987 as a free theatre group, Theater Strahl has established itself over the past 38 years as one of the pioneering stages for contemporary and sophisticated theatre for young audiences. For more than 30 years - until 2023 - the Kulturcentrum Die Weiße Rose in Schöneberg was the permanent venue of Theater Strahl. In addition, the former gymnasium in the courtyard of the Kulturhaus Schöneberg has been used as a stage for smaller productions and rehearsals since 1998. Since 2013, Theater Stahl has been using another former and listed double-decker gymnasium on the grounds of the Jugendherberge Berlin Ostkreuz. In 2020-23, it was converted into a centrally located theatre for young audiences with two venues and foyer buildings and officially opened in the 2022/23 season. Theater Strahl also performs throughout Germany and internationally, accepts invitations to children's and youth theatre festivals and is regularly nominated and awarded for theatre prizes.

After careful research, Theater Strahl develops plays for people aged 12 and over, which deal with perspectives, fears, desires and abilities of young people and put them in their social context. This creates an access to the world of theatre for first-time visitors. Young people are involved in the creation and development of fi. Thus find youthful perspectives and themes resonate on stage in diverse aesthetic forms. Theater Strahl gives space to these forms and ideas, experiments with media, music and masks, combines theatre, dance and performance and does not shy away from classics or classrooms.

An important facet of Theater Strahl's work are the theatre pedagogical offerings. From play-accompanying workshops to school cooperations to TheaterJugendClubs and intergenerational theatre projects, creative spaces are created for the audience.

Theater Strahl's goal in the future is to break down even more the boundaries between art and mediation, between a theater for adults and the theater for young audiences and to make a theater for young people between 12 and 120!
