RAUSGEHEN: House Dance Performance
Push
Potpourri Dance & Offensive dance
Concept & Performance: Olivia Mitterhuemer & Farah Deen (Potpourri Dance) Concept & Dramaturgy: Florian Bilbao (Theater Strahl) Production manager: Falk Grever
The dance performance ‘Push’ brings the idea of empowerment to life. The two dancers reflect the inner attitudes and resistances of the spectators in the school context. Throughout the play, the dancers encourage each other to overcome their own fears, through self-confidence and the power of community.
The circle symbolises unity and the common pursuit of ‘safe(r) spaces’, in which artists can feel comfortable and free themselves from any sense of shame and social constraints.
The dance style House Dance was created in the late 70s in the underground clubs of New York and is now spread worldwide.
The piece was conceived and rehearsed at the Hector Peterson School, Kreuzberg. 15 school classes experienced and helped shape the artistic process during workshops and rehearsals.
The piece will be shown as part of the "Equity im Tanz" (Equity in Dance) programme. A production of Offensive Tanz für junges Publikum Berlin as part of the RAUSGEHEN project, funded by TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund with funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and the Senate Department for Culture and Europe. In cooperation with the Berlin Mondiale and the Evangelical Congregation in Gropiusstadt.
