A circle of sand, fog and the highly emotional piece of music ‘Le Sacre du Printemps’: The five crumperers do not need more to tell this story of self-empowerment.
The award-winning dance piece ‘A Human Race’ shows a fierce struggle for freedom, participation and recognition. The dance here becomes an expression of anger and resistance, but also of cohesion and community.
The piece spans an arc between the first years of the 20th and 21st centuries. Between Krump, a raw, energetic dance style that emerged on the streets of Los Angeles in the early 2000s in response to racism and police violence, and Stravinsky's 1913 music, whose modern power cannot be evaded even today.

“It is raw. It's good. It is emotional. Krumping is a dance style from the streets of L.A. that rips, rips, moves. This could be seen at the Ruhrfestspiele in ‘A Human Race’.”
“It is an extraordinary style that will bring the young generation closer to the dance scene. It will be a little longer before Krump actually conquers the traditional theatre stage, but you are well on your way, also thanks to the Ruhr Festival, which offers a very varied and exciting programme in 2021.”
“A Human Race shows a way to be creative when you are in the middle of a crisis – away from the circumstances, back to yourself. This is the creative power that Krump carries within him.”
“Definitely worth seeing and recommended.”
“Strawinsky's orchestral piece with its highly emotional tonal twists is the ideal soundtrack for a Krump stage piece.”
“Enthusiastic from the first minute.”
